Some people want to have a real general resume, saying, "I can do a bit of this, a bit of that, a bit of something else." Well, as an employer, am I going to hire you, or am I going to hire the person who has all the points directly related to the job that I'm hiring for? Well, I'm going to take the targeted resume. And, you may think that's going to cut out jobs that you might be able to get, but think about it: Do you really want that job that's way different from what you are looking for as a career? It's not going to help you that much anyway. So target your cover letter and your resume to what you're looking for and what the employer is looking for and you'll have a much better chance of being selected.
