When I get resumes and cover letters, I may have to sort through 100 or even 200 of them. So I don't spend very much time on each one. So you may ask yourself, what am I looking for that will stand out? Well, frankly, funny-colored paper and weird fonts don't do it. Those types of things make it harder for me to read. I'm probably going to be doing my sorting at home at 10 o'clock at night, when I'm tired after a long day at work. And I need reading glasses, so I better be able to read your resume easily; and, if you have nothing to put on the resume, you can't fake it by making it look funny. So, make it clear and easy to read. Make it easy for me to see the points in your resume that I'm looking for. So you may have to redo your resume for my specific job. You may want to highlight the key points that I'm looking for from my job ad. If you do that, you'll have a good chance that I'll put you in the A-pile for an interview.
